You asked for Panhellenic Council information and this is where you’ll find it. We’ll also take this opportunity to explain the basics of recruitment, our recruitment schedule, formal recruitment questions, the Potential New Member (PNM) bill of rights, recruitment terms and the purpose of Rho Alphas.

What is the Panhellenic Council?
Composed of 12 sororities, the Panhellenic Council serves as the governing body for sororities at the University of Minnesota . In addition, nine of these sororities also belong to the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). These NPC sororities follow the recruitment schedule listed below, while the remaining sororities in the PHC follow their own recruitment schedules. All members of the Panhellenic Council are committed to involvement within the Greek community and the University of Minnesota . They are academically focused, cultured and talented. They are women you would be proud to call sisters.

The Basics of Recruitment
Recruitment is the period when sororities and fraternities seek new members to join their chapters. Sorority events at the University of Minnesota are hosted by both the PHC and individual chapters throughout the summer, fall and spring semesters. At PHC-sponsored events, you’ll get the chance to meet members from multiple sororities on campus and at all events you’ll learn about Greek activities, new member programs and, perhaps most importantly, get a feel for the uniqueness of each chapter.

And because each sorority at the University of Minnesota does have its own unique qualities, it’s important for you to keep an open mind throughout recruitment. By asking questions of undergraduate and alumnae members, you can better decide where you fit best.

Here are some questions we recommend you keep in mind:

> What activities is the chapter involved with on campus?
> How will membership in a specific fraternity benefit you?
> How much are dues or fees?
> What are the sleeping arrangements?
> What kind of scholarship program does the chapter offer?
> What is the meal plan?

WHY JOIN A SORORITY?
There are countless reasons to join a sorority, but here are some of the biggest benefits:
> You’re going to be a part of a remarkable community where you’ll learn and grow throughout your college years.
> You’re going to meet a lot of people, both inside and outside the Greek community.
> You’re going to have multiple leadership opportunities in the Greek community and within the University.
> You’re going to have support for academic success.

Joining a sorority is not only going to enrich your college experience; it’s going to provide you the foundation for a successful life after college. Going Greek is a big decision, but if it’s right for you, it’s one you’ll never regret you made.
