[+] why join a fraternity
[+] who can help me with this process?

You want Interfraternity Council information? Good thing, because this is where you’ll get it. We’ll also use this chance to explain the basics of recruitment, the benefits of joining a fraternity, our recruitment schedule, the purpose of Rho Alphas and recruitment chair info.

Understanding the IFC:
Serving as the unifying and governing body for 24 fraternities at the University of Minnesota, the IFC is the largest men’s group on campus. The council focuses on recruitment, social issues, leadership development, community service, campus involvement, Greek spirit and academic achievement. Its officers follow the local IFC constitution and bylaws as well as the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Resolutions. The NIC’s purpose is to assist collegiate and alumni IFC organizations while providing leadership programs and training for collegians.

IFC officers attend meetings with the executive committee, Panhellenic Council and fraternity and sorority advisors. They also guide the Greek community by assisting other officers and chapters.

Along with its duties, the Interfraternity Council also provides many means for personal development, such as:
> Communication
> Event planning
> Group skills
> Leadership
> Problem-solving and conflict management
> Risk management
> Strength, courage and passion

The Basics of Recruitment
Recruitment is the period when fraternities and sororities seek new members to join their chapters. Fraternities at the University of Minnesota follow an informal style of recruitment, with events hosted by both the IFC and individual chapters throughout the summer, fall and spring semesters. At IFC-sponsored events, you’ll get the chance to meet members from multiple fraternities on campus and at all events you’ll learn about Greek activities, new member programs and, perhaps most importantly, get a feel for the uniqueness of each chapter.

And because each fraternity at the University of Minnesota does have its own unique qualities, it’s important for you to keep an open mind throughout recruitment. By asking questions of undergraduate and alumni members, you can better decide where you fit best.

Here are some questions we recommend you keep in mind:
1. What’s expected of each member?
2. What is the time commitment?
3. How much are membership dues and live-in costs?
4. What does your total cost include?
5. What philanthropic events does your chapter participate in?
6. Are scholarships available to members?
7. Does your chapter have an academic program?
8. What makes this chapter stand out among the others?
9. What is the history of your chapter?
10. Does your chapter have any housing requirements?

Now you know the basics, so…
WHY JOIN A FRATERNITY?
There are countless reasons to join a fraternity, but here are some of the biggest benefits:
> You’re going to be a part of a remarkable community where you’ll learn and grow throughout your college years.
> You’re going to meet a lot of people, both inside and outside the Greek community.
> You’re going to have multiple leadership opportunities in the Greek community and within the University.
> You’re going to have support for academic success.

Joining a fraternity is not only going to enrich your college experience; it’s going to provide you the foundation for a successful life after college. Going Greek is a big decision, but if it’s right for you, it’s one you’ll never regret you made.

Greek Ambassadors
Greek Ambassadors are fraternity representatives selected by the Interfraternity Council. They are liaisons for the fraternities at the U of M who can answer questions, help you learn more about the U of M and the Greek community, and provide resources to make your transition as easy as possible. They also volunteer to aid the Interfraternity Council’s Vice President of Recruitment by facilitating recruitment functions for the entire fraternity community. Greek Ambassadors are your primary contacts for exploring opportunities with the fraternities and learning more about the Greek Community. If you have a question, any Greek Ambassador can answer it.

IFC Vice President of Recruitment Info
